John Carlson is a Senior Financial Grants Specialist at the Colorado Broadband Office (CBO) where he manages financial compliance for state and federal broadband grant programs. In his role, he serves as a primary point of contact for grantees, providing guidance and resolving complex financial and compliance questions. He is also primarily responsible for processing financial requests, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting.

With extensive experience in federal grants and contracts administration, John specializes in compliance monitoring, subrecipient oversight, and the application of federal regulations such as 2 CFR 200/Uniform Guidance. John has been with the CBO since May 2025. Prior to joining the CBO, he served for 6 years as a senior grants and contracts administrator to a federal implementing partner organization where he provided expertise on regulatory terms and conditions for a portfolio of federally sponsored projects. He is dedicated to ensuring that projects meet established standards while fostering strong relationships with all stakeholders.

John holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees with a focus on mathematics, education and community development. John also served internationally in the United States Peace Corps from 2014-2016 and is a dedicated public servant.
