Developing the Broadband Workforce

Colorado has more than $1 billion in state and federal funding to improve internet throughout the state. This investment will create more than 3,000 high-quality jobs and careers in telecom for Colorado residents over the next few years. Learn more in the CBO Workforce Plan.

To meet this need the Colorado Broadband Office, along with our partners, is:

  1. Increasing awareness of career opportunities
  2. Developing and supporting more training and job placement programs
  3. Embedding telecommunications into Colorado's workforce structure

Search Broadband Jobs in Colorado on Indeed

Fiber Splicer: Connect networks by joining optical fibers, ensuring the fastest and most reliable internet connections. Make as much as $80k/year out of high school and even more with higher education or experience. Job search words: Fiber Optic Splicer, Fiber Optic Technician, Optical Fiber Technician, Fiber Network Specialist.

Locator: Keep utilities safe by finding and marking the paths of cables, pipes, and other underground conduits. When construction or excavation projects happen, your work helps prevent damage to these essential services, ensuring everyone has access to reliable internet, water, and electricity. Earn as much as $47k/year out of high school or trade school. Job search terms: Utilities Locator, Broadband Locator.

Laborers/ General Construction: These are hands-on jobs and offer a variety of duties by project, even by day. Make as much as $40k/year right out of high school or with a GED. Looking for a summer job? Make $18-$19/hour as a laborer. Job search terms: Construction Laborer, General Laborer, Broadband Construction Worker, Utility Construction Assistant.

Foreman: Lead your team to success by overseeing projects, ensuring they stay on track and meet high-quality standards. Make as much as $72k/year if you have three or more years in the industry, with a ton of potential to move into management/ high-paying jobs. Experience with fiber optic cable installation, standards and safety. Job search terms: Construction Foreman, Fiber Optic Foreman, Project Foreman, Broadband Team Leader.

Safety Lead: Champion safety protocols and create a secure work environment for all team members. Make as much as $78k/year out of high school or with a bachelor’s degree in safety management or a related field, or with health and safety management certifications. Job search terms: Safety Manager, Health and Safety Specialist, Construction Safety Coordinator, Safety Compliance Officer.

Land Surveyor: Measure and map out areas for new broadband infrastructure, laying the groundwork for expansion. Make up to $62k/year with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent based on experience). You can use this experience in multiple industries. Job search terms: Land Survey Technician, GIS Surveyor, Constructions Surveyor.

Outside Plant Engineer: Primary responsibilities revolve around the construction, inspection and maintenance of plant infrastructure. Make as much as $78k/year with a bachelor’s degree in one of the following engineering fields: industrial, mechanical, electrical and electronics. Job search terms: OSP Engineer, Broadband Infrastructure Engineer, Fiber Optic Engineer, Telecommunication Plant Engineer.

Procurement Lead: Manage a company’s sourcing capabilities and supply chain. Make up to $73k/year with a bachelor’s degree in one of the following engineering fields: business, logistics, purchasing, economics and supply chain management. Job search terms: Purchasing Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Procurement Specialist, Logistics Coordinator.

Quality Inspector: Ensure every aspect of installation and maintenance meets the highest standards for performance and reliability. Make as much as $67k/year out of high school. Job search terms: Quality Assurance Inspector, Installation Inspector, Construction Quality Control Specialist, Maintenance Quality Inspector.

Restoration Crew: Repair damaged fiber optics. Make as much as $74k/year out of high school. Job search terms: Fiber Optic Restoration Technician, Fiber Optic Repair Specialist, Broadband Repair Technician, Telecommunications Maintenance Technician.

TIRAP: Telecommunications Industry Registered Apprenticeship Program

The Wireless Infrastructure Association is the US Department of Labor (DOL) appointed national Industry Intermediary for telecommunications apprenticeships. It manages TIRAP, which now has 107 employer sponsors, deploying 16 DOL approved registered apprenticeship occupations, producing close to a total of 6000 apprentices.

MSLCAT: Mountain States Line Constructors

Mountain States offers on-the-job training and schooling in the electrical construction industry.

Telecommunications Education Center

Powered by the Wireless Infrastructure Association, the Telecommunications Education Center contains over 30 courses devoted to improving education, quality of work, and safety within the telecommunications industry.
