Executive Order

We had a highly productive year in 2023. We announced Capital Projects Fund (CPF) awards, received an allocation of $826.5 million from the Broadband, Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program and passed significant legislation that removes barriers to investing federal dollars, among many more things. These accomplishments were made possible by partnerships with broadband stakeholders across the state, and are highlighted in our Colorado Broadband Office (CBO) 2023 Report. There is a lot of progress to celebrate!

On Dec. 8, the Polis administration announced that the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) is awarding Colorado over $5 million to prepare for the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) funding program. The BEAD program is the country’s largest-ever investment in broadband, and provides funding to build infrastructure and provide equitable opportunities through access to the internet. 

On June 2, Governor Polis signed an Executive Order restating and amending the Executive Order on Accelerating Broadband Deployment in Colorado, creating a single streamlined directive concerning broadband access in Colorado.

On Mar. 3 the CBO held an Executive Order Discussion to discuss the details of Executive Order D 2022 009. The discussion focused on the elements of the Broadband Strategic Plan, including the roadmap, the process for soliciting feedback and engaging industry and community leaders, and strategies to address digital connectivity across the state. 

On Feb. 17, Governor Polis signed an Executive Order directing the Colorado Broadband Office (CBO) to develop a Broadband Strategic Plan to connect 99% of Colorado households to high-speed broadband by 2027. 

On Friday October 30, 2020, Governor Jared Polis released the Broadband Initiatives Report which outlines the state’s vision to create economic opportunity for Coloradans and accomplish the administration’s Bold Four issues through changing how Colorado governs, maps, funds and deploys broadband.
